Energy Burned During Activity

This calculator computes the calories burned during popular activities.

Provided by Natural Physiques.  They explain more about body fat, how to achieve a major physique transformation, and their own story in "Become the Journey: A Transformation Guide."

This is a general calculator to estimate the amount of calories burned during activity. It is a little more precise than most calculators, because it is based on your weight instead of a generic range. There are still issues, however. Accurate equations should be gender-specific and should take into account lean mass (including muscle) instead of overall weight. Your level of ability also affects this - if you are more experienced with an activity, you will burn fewer calories doing it! Use this as a general guideline. If you would like a more comprehensive list (literally hundreds of activities to choose from) as well as a program that will adjust the calories based on what your body is truly doing, instead of just depending on a generic equation, then I recommend downloading your Free Trial of Diet Power Nutrition Software. This is the program I use when I need to get lean!

The activities included in this calculator are the ten (10) most popular, according to this document published by the U.S. Government (requires a program that can view PDF documents - right click and use "Save As..." to save to your local hard drive). They are listed in the order that they were ranked. Weightlifting is the only exception, which I have replaced myself in lieu of "Exercising with Equipment" because this was too broad of a range. Camping provides zero calories in the calculator because it is not specific enough, I just included it for consistency with the document that I pulled the activities from. I then added running, as this is also a very popular activity. All exercises assume a moderate intensity level.
